Reasons why you need to apply Prickly Pear Seed Oil on your face daily!

Hand drawn opuntia azurea purple prickly pear

From anti-ageing to the treatment of acne, the versatility of prickly pear seed oil makes it a superb treatment oil suitable for all skin types and a great night time treat.

Containing vitamin K, prickly pear oil helps to brighten hyper pigmentation areas such as dark spots as well as being of benefit for under-eye dark circles. The fatty acid profile of linoleic acid and oleic acid replenish lost lipids within skin which helps moisturize and restore skin’s elasticity.

Why is prickly pear oil so costly?

The process of extracting the fruit from the seeds is a lengthy operation, which can take three to four days. It is a manual operation and the season only lasts for a few months. It is worth noting that half a ton of these cactus fruits only produce one liter of prickly pear seed oil. Each seed only contains 5% oil and it is these combination of factors that makes prickly pear oil one of the most expensive beauty oils in the world.

What’s so special about prickly pear seed oil?

Prickly pear oil contains the highest amount of vitamin E of any other beauty oil on the market. In fact it contains 150% more vitamin E than argan oil. This oil is also extremely rich in essential fatty acids including omega 6 and 9, antioxidants, polyphenols, amino acids and vitamin K.

Prickly Pear Oil’s Skin Benefits

Prickly pear seed oil has a high content of essential fatty acids which help calm down any inflammation and redness especially for those prone to rosacea. The oil is easily absorbed into skin and penetrates quickly without leaving any greasy residue.

This oil contains effective and potent antioxidants known as betalains which are red and yellow pigments found in plants. Prickly Pear contains the highest amount of betalains than any other plant including beetroot, Goji berries and Acai. These super antioxidant pigments help to protect skin against ageing from various types of damaging radicals which would otherwise encourage wrinkle formation.

Aside from its content of betalains, this seed oil contains amino acids which may help stimulate collagen production. Containing vitamin K, prickly pear oil helps to brighten hyperpigmentation areas such as dark spots as well as being of benefit for under-eye dark circles.

The fatty acid profile of linoleic acid and oleic acid replenish lost lipids within skin which helps moisturize and restore skin’s elasticity. The high linoleic acid content, roughly 62%, ensures that even the most dehydrated skin is ameliorated.

Sufferers of acne usually have higher levels of oleic acid in skin compared to linoleic acid. It is therefore beneficial to use a non-pore clogging oil rich in linoleic acid to help achieve balance in skin. Enter prickly pear seed oil – its high linoleic acid content helps prevent sebum from hardening and thus prevents blocked pores which would lead to acne and spots. This oil may be used as a night time treatment daily.

Tips: nails and dark circles!

When applied regularly to the nail cuticles, this oil works to strengthen nails making them less prone to breakage.

Dark circles
Prickly pear oil has healing properties that help reduce dark circles around the eyes. Apply the oil gently under the eyes every night for best results.

Aleppo is known for the purest soaps ever, which is why we carry it exclusively. We buy direct from the finest Syrian soap makers. These traditional soap recipes have been used there for thousands of years. Refreshing and clean, Aleppo soaps barely leave a scent on your skin because they are so light, non-greasy and non-drying and they wash off with absolutely no trace of soapiness behind.

Pure olive oil soap can only be produced in the cold months of December through to March. It is manufactured using a simple process. Olive oil is mixed in large cauldrons with an aqueous solution of an alkali – the soda ash. The mixture is heated to more than 200 degrees Celsius and stirred until the oil fully decomposes, yielding glycerin and the sodium salt of olive oil. This process is called ‘saponification’. Towards the end of the initial process, the bay oil is added to the mixture and further saponification takes place. Usually olive oil is between 60-98% while laurel is between 2-40%. The soap which has the most amount of laurel oil in it is considered to be the most valuable and it has the most costly production. It is then dried for 9 months before it is considered ready for sale. This process causes the outside of the soap to a beautiful deep gold, whilst inside the soap remains an olive green colour. The color the soap acquires depends mostly on the amount of laurel oil the bar has. Color ranges from a pale yellow (small concentration of laurel oil) to a deep brown or golden color (large concentration of laurel oil). The soaps are finished in the traditional way, cut, stamped by hand and set.

The Moroccan Beauty Secret

First Cold-Pressed Extraction Oil Traditionally Used for Both Skin and Hair

Our Argan Oil is a first cold-pressed extraction and is analysed in a laboratory in France. It is certified as “BIO” by the label “Qualité France Experts”, which means “organic” so there is no fertilizers involved in the growing of the trees neither into the harvest phase which is still done traditionally, finally the oil is extracted without any chemicals. The oil is then bottled for retail is by Noon Nabalsy France to ensure the highest level of hygienic conditions.

Argan Tree Morocco

This plant oil produced from the kernels of the Argan tree (Argania spinosa L.) in the High Atlas mountains of Morocco is one of the rarest oils in the world, due to the small and very specific growing region. Extracting the oil is also key to it’s value; first the fruit is dried in open air and the fleshy pulp of the fruit is removed. Then each argan nut is hand-cracked to access the kernel, since machine processing has to date not been successful. This makes the process time-consuming and labour-intensive. The kernels are then lightly roasted and cooled (when intended for culinary use), ground and pressed, while kernels are left un-roasted when intended for cosmetic use to minimize the lovely aromatic nutty scent and flavor. The oil is then left to rest for 2 weeks to allow any solids to settle and further filtration is sometimes done to gain perfect clarity.

Social Impact:

By Buying Argan Oil you are ensuring sustainable development in the argan fields regions of Morocco. A lot of projects involve local populations and help with improvements of basic infrastructure, management of natural resources, revenue-generating activities, capacity reinforcement…

The production of argan oil is beginning to have noticeable environmental and social impacts. The rise in demand for this precious oil means that argan trees are now seen as a valuable resource. This has led to their preservation and care. The labour-intensive nature of argan oil production, now frequently carried out by unionized women’s co-operatives, has provided a steady income for many women and their families, improved the social status of some women and has encouraged producers of other agricultural products to examine the co-operative model. At present, argan oil production supports approximately 2.2 million people in the southern parts of Morocco.
